21. The wise men gave Gold, to show that Jesus was a king

When recalling someone and the description ‘heart of gold’ is used, you are meant to imagine kindness in a most precious way. Strangely it suggests kindness so un-bling -like as you can imagine. It is more about the purity of gold which can be found even in its rawest state, nugget like in the dross of clay or silt. This is gold that is worthy of offering.

What offering of gold do you offer today?

Jesus Baptism

  Sunday 10th January

The Christmas season is all about ‘God with us.’

Have you been baptised in the name of the “Father,Son and Holy Spirit?”

The point of today in the Christian calendar is to say that Jesus was also baptised.

OK it was John, but it represented a turning point.

Recall your own baptism – compare and contrast with the Jesus experience.

Jesus simple placed by St. John as the ‘Word’.

Such diversity of translation and meaning that has been debated through the years.

In Genesis we imagine the words of creation and see Jesus as being there with the Father.

John pictured that image too. That word contained the power of newness that begins and continues life.

And are not we a part of that creativity?

Who Me?

28th January 2015

Jesus was an unlikely Messiah, with his background.

That’s the whole point.

Nathanael equally seemed an unlikely disciple, with his prejudice and his preconceptions.

Yet, God uses unlikely people in the service of the kingdom, now as ever, whether it’s a boy Samuel, a shepherd David, a reluctant Moses, a runaway Jonah… or us.

God knows us, with our weaknesses as well as our strengths, sees our potential and calls us, either directly or through friends like Philip who wouldn’t take no for an answer?
