The Weave

Friday 16 December

weave

There is a   drama series on TV and the first  moments of the current episode flashes the highlights of the previous week or weeks; the whys the wherefore, the questions and the cliff-hanger.

Mathew tells his narrative of Jesus’ birth through the prospective of Mary and the placing of her and Joseph’s experiences within a particular place and time in history.

There is weaving and intrigue as any live drama, but God’s hand is seen throughout.

Look again at events of the week – what are the headline for this week’s conversation with God?

As I look at the pattern of the news today, where can I place God in the pattern? In the needs of others? In their joys or success? How about in the justice or injustice a situation? As Jesus broke into human history revealing God’s hand, may I behold him today! Amen

Curry Talk

We are not a book group,  instead of reading a book and then chatting about it, we watch a film, then over curry talk about it. You’ll like this –  we have a film group!

Sometimes the conversation spreads over a couple of hours and we return to what we saw and heard in the film throughout the meal. Sometimes the word ‘rubbish’ is used and we move on to a myriad of other different subjects.

Tonight we will sit, and over first a couple of beers and then the meal, will be taking about ‘The Woodsman” with Kevin Bacon in the lead role. A strange subject for a film – we will, I think, talk long and hard. Relevant to the news at the moment….

You Must Be Out of Your Brilliant Mind.

“I love it when a plan comes together.” An ‘A’ Team line regularly spoken.

Sometimes you can sit and think all day and a stream of consciousness just never develops. Walking through porridge is a comparable sprint.

But then sometime, a line links with a memory, links with a sentence briefly spoken in passing, links with a news bulletin, links with dream before sleep, links with what you actually thought about last month.

Noting the passing references together and a simple argument or rational lineage unfolds before your very eyes. Sheer brilliance?

We’ll see…or at least the punters may….or not!
