My Formation

Sunday 14 February

I remember reading Richard Bach story, ‘Jonathan Livingston Seagull’ as a teenager and seeing before me a beautiful parable I could associate with my spiritual journey with Jesus.

Jonathan tells his disciples:”Instead of our drab slogging forth and back to the fishing boats, there’s reason to live! We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, we can find ourselves as creatures of excellence and intelligence and skill. We can learn to be free! we can learn to fly!”

I remember wanting to fly, when other were sceptical that I could. But I took heart in a vision that still others encouraged.

“Most gulls don’t bother to learn more than the simplest facts of flight – how to get from shore to food and back again”

So much would hold me back, but God was not given credit in the equation.

But: “The only true law is that which leads to freedom,” Jonathan said. “There is no other!”
