Try and look up St Lucian on the internet, who’s memory is celebrated today, and you will only be able to book a holiday in any number of hotels. The web only seems to recognise the Caribbean Island, which is actually named after St. Lucy.
St. Lucian (312 A.D.) was a theologian, scholar, and martyr, he authored many works on the Bible and Church doctrine, and his writings were so respected that St. Jerome used Lucian for his own translation of the bible.
Why remember someone 1700 years gone?
The web of influence of anyone, in any year, spreads. What we achieve can stretch beyond our lifetime and network. Lucian, and his influence on Jerome, give memorial to him.
In this New Year, what will you do that adds to the memorial of the saints?
