Thoughts Back into the Playgrounds

Sometimes you read something in scripture or elsewhere, and you are transported into a situation past, or more frightening, on into the future. You can picture and almost feel tension rising.

Matthew 11:17 – ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’

On one hand, I’m in the playground, in some ground breaking debate for an eight year old and there’s a breakdown into name calling and sing-song insults. The quote from St. Matthew resounds for me with the ‘Ner, ner, ner, ner, neeerrr!’ of childhood refusal to listen.

On the other hand, I can see a future gathering of people – a lot older, and a lot wiser who have gotten into a habit of squabbling and not listening. But not a cheery playground!!!

Perhaps there is need of a much feared and loved dinner lady to be in charge. Bring back Mrs. Griffiths and Mrs. Buzzy.
